Your TV Channel Line-up WILL BE CHANGING on Monday, August 22nd!

To avoid an interruption in TV Service and/or DVR Recordings, please click on YOUR COUNTY tab below to find out what action is required on your part.

Upgrading to ALL Digital will allow for many more HD Channels as well as a consolidated channel lineup for Chelan and Douglas Counties. Please take a few minutes to read how this will affect your TV Service and your Channel Lineup.

Chelan County “All Digital” Conversion and
Lineup Consolidation

On Monday, August 22nd, we will be upgrading all remaining analog cable television signals to digital. In addition to the digital conversion, we will be consolidating and merging the TV lineups from Chelan and Douglas County giving the entire TV lineup additional HD Channels and room for many more! Each of these upgrades will affect our customers in slightly different ways. We are committed to making this transition as seamless and smooth for you as possible. Below is all the information you will need to be prepared for this exciting change!

What does going “all digital” mean?

Customers can receive their cable service in two different ways - Digital and Analog. Digital uses set-top boxes which are connected to the PUD’s fiber box outside using a coax cable. The set-top box is then connected to the customer’s TV using an HDMI, composite, or coax cable. Analog uses the same coax cable from the PUD’s fiber box, but instead of connecting it to a set-top box, it plugs directly into the television. Many customers have multiple televisions and utilize both analog and digital signals. The television industry has been moving away from analog for many reasons including quality and bandwidth issues. Analog channels are only capable of broadcasting SD (standard definition) content and are much more likely to be affected by “ghosting” and color abnormalities. The bandwidth used for one analog channel is capable of carrying multiple HD (high definition) channels when converted to a digital signal. By going “all digital”, we will be able to provide the very best picture quality and most HD channels possible.

What do I need to do to be ready for “all digital”?

Depending on your current setup there are different steps you must take.

  1. TVs with a LocalTel set-top box without DVR:

Action Required: No changes are necessary, but your channel numbers will change. See the new line-up online at MYLOCALTEL.NET. You will also be receiving one in the mail.
  2. TVs with a LocalTel set-top box with DVR:

Action Required: You will need to re-program your DVR recordings in order to assure you will not miss your favorite shows. See the DVR Recordings section for more details regarding any series recordings you might have set.
  3. Digital TVs with NO set-top box and with a built-in Digital Tuner:

Action Required: A digital “auto-scan” or “channel search” will need to be performed in order to tune in the new digital channels. Please refer to your owner’s manual if you are unsure if your TV has a Digital Tuner or how to perform the digital auto-scan.

*Most owners manuals are available online by searching on your Make and Model Number on your TV.

  4. Analog TVs with NO set-top box:

Action Required - IN ADVANCE: Analog TVs with NO set-top box: You will need to rent a Set-top Box or DTA (Digital Terminal Adapter) from LocalTel and plug it in to your coax cable and your TV. Both boxes are HD compatible but can down convert to SD for non-HD televisions.

Call us at 888-8888 or come by our office and get your order placed for your Set-top Box or DTA at anytime, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:30pm.

Why is the channel lineup changing?

LocalTel is now in a position to serve our customers better by consolidating the Chelan and Douglas County lineups into one single unified lineup. Customers in both counties will experience some changes to the channel numbers they are used to, but we are convinced the added benefits will outweigh the possible frustration in learning the new channel numbers. By creating one master lineup for both counties, we will also have the opportunity to add new channels, including many in high definition. Regardless of which county you reside in or how you receive our signal, this single lineup will be your roadmap to keeping up with the latest that television has to offer in North Central Washington.

What about my DVR Recordings?

Only customers with a LocalTel set-top box with a DVR will need to change their scheduled series recordings, otherwise, there is nothing that needs to be done to enjoy the new channels and easy to use lineup.

There are two types of DVR recordings, Individual and Series.

Individual Recordings are just like they sound, where a program is selected to be recorded on an individual basis. They record a single program on a single channel one time only. Any recordings you have scheduled between August 22-29 WILL need to be re-programmed on August 22 or they will not be recorded.

Series Recordings are when an entire program series is set to be recorded. They search the guide data and record each program that has the specified title. As new program data is populated on the guide, the series recording continues to search for the specified title and records any matches it finds. Series Recordings can be set up to search for a specific title on all channels or a single channel.

Series Recording on All Channels will record any program that matches the specified title regardless of the channel or channel number its on. This type of series recording WILL NOT be affected by the channel lineup revision.

Series Recording on a Single Channel will only record a program that matches the specified title and matches the channel and channel number that was specified. This type of series recordings WILL be affected by the channel lineup revision. You WILL need to re-enter these with the new channel number to avoid missing any of your recordings.

Any recordings that are currently saved on your DVR will still be available to view.

Set-top Boxes, DVRs and DTAs

Set-top Boxes are larger than DTAs and have a front LED screen that can display the time or channel number. They come with an onscreen TV guide, PPV channels, and the ability to subscribe to additional tiers such as Sports, Movies, and Premium services like HBO and Showtime. Set-top boxes are divided into two groups, Non-DVRs and DVRs. Non-DVRs are single tuner set top boxes. They are 12 inches wide and 3 inches tall and are available to rent for $8.95 a month.

DVRs are dual tuner set-top boxes that can record two separate programs at a time and then saves them to the onboard hard drive allowing you to view them when it is convenient for you. DVRs allow you to schedule series recordings which ensure you will never miss you favorite program. They are 16 inches wide and 3 inches tall and are available to rent for $17.95 a month.

DTAs are smaller than the set-top boxes and have a power light on the front but no LED display screen. They have the ability to subscribe to additional tiers such as Sports, Movies, and Premium services like HBO and Showtime. They are 5 inches wide and 1 inch tall and are available to rent for $1.95 a month.
(We will provide this FREE for 3 months - Boxes are available to pick up in early August. Please call to reserve your box today!)
